Travis Rademan-Ludeke Dominates Junior Men’s Category at Die Groot Trap 2023
Travis Rademan-Ludeke, Winspace Cycles SA’s first sponsored athlete, made headlines in the cycling world after achieving impressive results in the 2nd Edition of Die Groot Trap 2023 race held in Pretoria, South Africa. The 105km race saw Travis finishing in first place in the Junior Men’s category and an overall race position of 6th out of 769 participants.
Travis, who is only 16 years old, discovered his love for cycling during the lockdown and started out on MTB. However, he quickly transitioned to road racing and has achieved remarkable success in a short time. In 2021, he became the South African champion in both Road and Time Trial disciplines, and in 2022, he continued to impress with his cycling prowess.
Supported by Winspace SA, Travis has been able to focus on honing his skills and pursuing his passion for cycling. The partnership between Winspace and Travis is a promising one, and we can expect to see more great things from this young athlete.
The 2nd Edition of Die Groot Trap 2023 race was held on 2 April 2023 and boasted three new routes. The organisation made amendments to the 105km route to create a more sanitised riding environment for cyclists while also decreasing the impact on traffic flow. The middle distance was reduced to 65km, and a brand new 17km short distance option was also introduced.
All the routes began at the Sun Arena Time Square and headed in a Northerly direction via January Masilela to link up with a right turn onto Atterbury Road. The 105km and 65km routes crossed over Solomon Mahlangu and carried on with Lynnwood Road until it turned left onto the M33. The M33 became January Masilela and ran all the way back to Sun Arena Time Square. The 17km route turned short at Lynnwood Road to follow the same routing back to the finish line as the 65km and 105km.
Travis’s achievement in the Junior Men’s category and his overall race position of 6th out of 769 participants is a testament to his dedication and focus as a young athlete. His success in the 2nd Edition of Die Groot Trap 2023 race will undoubtedly inspire other young cyclists to pursue their dreams and passions in the world of cycling.
